Children's Dentistry

One of the most important services we provide is helping your children grow into healthy adults. If left unchecked, tooth decay can begin at a very young age. The good news is that with proper care and maintenance, this issue can be avoided. Because children are constantly growing and developing, they will face unique challenges. We are here to help develop a specialized preventative plan that will set your children up for success in the future.

Adult Dentistry

At Brook West, we pride ourselves on personalizing our services to the unique, and at times complicated dental issues that can occur in adults. We understand that even those who practice excellent oral selfcare can still find themselves facing difficult dental issues. We understand the importance of discovering the causes behind these issues, and are committed to developing a relationship with you that involves consistent checkups, a customized routine for your specific needs, and providing you with the comprehensive and diverse services that you and your family need to maintain good oral health.

Developing Good Oral Hygiene Practices

One of the most important aspects of support that we can provide to you and your family is how to develop methods for practicing good oral hygiene early on so you can avoid having issues down the line.

It is critically important that you and your family develop good oral hygiene practices and that you are consistent in following them. Remember to always:

  • Brush and floss your teeth at least twice daily
  • When you brush, make sure you brush for at least two minutes
  • Be sure that you are rinsing your toothbrush thoroughly after using it
  • Try to avoid drinking sugary drinks, and keep sweet foods to a minimum
  • Remember to drink water after every meal
  • If you have a cavity that has formed, treat it immediately
  • Continue seeing your dentist every six months for regular check ins and cleanings

Family Dentistry Services That We Provide

At Brook West Family Dentistry, we provide a broad range of dental procedures that will support the diverse needs of your family, including but not limited to the following:

Bi-annual Cleanings:

It is important that you and your child make a point of visiting your dentist at least twice a year for an in-depth cleaning. Many people assume that children do not need these frequent visits and cleanings, but children actually need extra care because their baby teeth are much softer and more likely to develop cavities when compared to adults. Scheduling this regular cleaning will go a long way in decreasing the likelihood of your child developing cavities or infections.

Dental Restorations :

Dental restorations are a treatment option that are placed in order to restore the function and overall appearance of a damaged tooth. Dental restorations can be made from a wide variety of materials, including silver, plastic, porcelain, and gold. If your dentist has determined that you or your child are in need of a restoration, they will remove the decayed tooth material. Once this has been removed, they will clean out the area that has been affected. Finally, they will fill the area with a restorative material. Closing off these spaces that are prone to allow bacteria to enter is an effective way to prevent further decay from developing in the future.

Sealants:

One of the best ways for your child to avoid getting cavities is to have a sealant placed. This sealant is a thin resin that helps protect the teeth from developing cavities. While many people feel that taking this added step is unnecessary, the preventative benefits that accompany having sealants placed can result in saving a great deal of money on procedures down the line.

Root Canal Therapy:

If you have recently learned that your child needs root canal therapy (pulpotomy), please know that this is not terribly uncommon. Children’s teeth are much softer than adults, making them more susceptible to bacteria and decay, which can result in an infection developing. We have the resources and support you need to help your child through this procedure as comfortably as possible.
