Cost to Fix Diastema?

When you have started the conversation with the dentist to address your diastema, the dentist can help you determine the best treatment plan for you.  Depending on the cause of your diastema, the dentist will have different treatments with different price tags.  The size of the diastema, the location of the gap in your mouth and the health of the surrounding teeth will also impact the cost for your treatment.

These are the average costs for the various treatments for your diastema:

Partial braces or limited orthodontics are ideal for addressing gaps within the front six teeth on the upper jaw and cost $2,000 - $3,000.  If your diastema is more severe or you have multiple diastemata in addition to other issues that can be addressed with full braces, you can plan on spending $1,500 to $13,000 depending on the type of braces.

If the dentist or orthodontist can address your gap with a retainer instead of braces, then the treatment will cost about $500 to $2,500.

The dentist may suggest using teeth gap bands or teeth effect bands to use at night.  The small rubber bands can pull the teeth closer to each other overnight with the small price tag of $4 to $30 for 50-100 bands.  However, pulling two teeth closer together may pull the teeth further apart from other teeth on either side creating new diastema or even loosen the teeth from their sockets.  The least expensive treatment may cause more pain and bigger issues so be sure to review all the options with the dentist.

If you have an oversized frenum pulling the teeth apart, the dentist can suggest a procedure called a labial frenectomy to remove the additional tissue.  This simple treatment can cost $250 to $1,200 if it is not used in conjunction with other treatments.

The dentist may be able to treat your diastema by increasing the size of your teeth on either side of the gap. Dental veneers allow the dentist to adjust the appearance of your smile with thin coverings for your teeth that cost between $500 to $1,100 per tooth.  Traditional veneers require removing the tooth enamel to apply but the thinner Lumineers brand offers the same results without shaving any enamel.  Lumineers have improved technology with a larger cost of about $700 to $1,300 a tooth.

If teeth on either side of the gap have additional damage or decay, the dentist can use dental crowns to protect the teeth and improve the overall appearance of your smile.  The dentist has many options for the materials for your crowns and each one comes with different prices from $500 to $3,000 a tooth.

Dentists can even address the gap with a tooth colored resin applied to teeth on either side of the gap to reduce the size of the diastema.  Dental bonding usually costs about $100 to $1,000 a tooth depending on the dentist and the individual case.

Based on the information above, the price to address your diastema can fall into a large range but only you and the dentist can determine the best treatment for your teeth and your smile.
